First ODVA-certified encoders for EtherNet/IP networks
POSITAL’s recently introduced OPTOCODE models with EtherNet/IP interfaces are now the world’s first encoders to be certified by the ODVA. The Open DeviceNet Vendors Association, which sets the standards for this Industrial Ethernet protocol, smoothly and quickly concluded all functional and compliance testing for the EtherNet/IP-capable encoders. Equipped with an Ertec200 platform, the devices enable application cycle times below 10 ms.

EtherNet/IP does not depend on terminating resistors or switches for address allocation and data transfer speed adjustment, which also benefits the encoders’ compact design. Notable for their particularly small installation depth, they come without a connection cap and measure a mere 58 mm in diameter. Hence, even machines or systems with very little extra space to spare can accommodate them.

The certified encoders feature an integrated switch, two M12 connections for communication lines, and a third one for voltage supply. Six LEDs display diagnostic information directly at the device to keep users on location up to date about the current bus communication status. The devices provide a resolution of 16 bit per revolution, and an additional 14 bit in multi-turn mode, yielding a 30 bit overall measuring range. Due to their opto-electronic scanning method, the encoders instantly return their current absolute position values without referencing as soon as they are powered up.
